Acronym or Term |
Definition |
CLU |
Common Land Unit boundaries (CLUs) are sourced from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and are effective as of 2008. (Last publicly available data) |
CRM |
Comparative Relative Maturity |
Crop Zone |
A field where a specific crop has been assigned. |
DAP |
Diammonium Phosphate is a phosphorus fertilizer made up of phosphate, sulfur, and ammonium. The standard nutrient grade of DAP is relatively high at 18-46-0. |
Decision Zone |
|
ERU |
Environmental Response Unit; it factors in both soil type attributes and irrigation/drainage data. |
Fertigation |
the amount of liquid nitrogen fertilizer applied during irrigation. |
Flat rate application |
A consistent rate applied across all Decision Zones (can apply to Nitrogen, seed rates, etc.) |
GDU |
Growing Degree Unit. Unit of accumulated sunlight. |
GPS |
Global Positioning System |
Inhibitor |
A chemical added to nitrogen to reduce nitrogen loss in the soil. |
KML |
Keyhole Markup Language. XML notation for expressing geographic annotation and visualization in Internet-based, two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional Earth browsers. Used in Google Earth. |
MAP |
Monoammonium Phosphate (11-52-0). Granular fertilizer that is water soluble and dissolves rapidly in soil if adequate moisture is present. Upon dissolution, the two basic components of the fertilizer separate again to release NH4. + and H2PO4. -. Both of these nutrients are important to sustain healthy plant growth. |
MYYA |
Multi-Year Yield Analysis combines normalized yield values from corn and soybean crops in prior years to create a composite normalized set of values centered on one (average), with values being higher and lower than one to represent the relative productivity. |
NCCPI |
National Commodity Crop Productivity Index is an index developed by the NRCS to classify productivity of soils by crop (corn, soybeans, cotton, wheat). The index is on a scale of 0 to 1, with 1 being most productive. |
SSURGO |
SSURGO (Soil Survey Geographic database) is a collection of digital soil survey data performed by the US Government's National Cooperative Soil Survey performed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. |
Variable rate application |
Has rates that vary across a field. In the case of Nitrogen and Stand, the rates can change by Decision Zone location. |
VRN |
Variable Rate Nitrogen |
VRS |
Variable Rate Seeding |
VT/R1 |
Vegetative Tassel/Reproductive Stage 1 |
Yield Goal |
A user-defined goal of yield for a field for a given year. |
Yield Target |
Estimated crop yield at the decision zone level |
