What is the estimated runoff from rainfall events?
Requirements:
- Fields are in Insights
- Crops Assigned in Activities
- Decision Zones Created or Synced from Corteva
- Field Details Set
- Add New Nitrogen or Planting Events
- Run Simulation
Answer:
Runoff is affected by the curve number associated with the SSURGO soil data for the map unit with other soil parameters such as texture and soil saturation level from the previous day. A high curve number indicates more runoff whereas a lower curve number indicates more infiltration or ponding (depending on saturated flow speed). The curve number and the other soil parameters are the same for the entire soil polygon so they do not account for landscape variation at smaller scales. Changes to the calculation in the new Granular Crop Model will result in less runoff and higher water infiltration occurring
